23/43.- Florence, Piazza Santa Croce

This sculpture is in front of the main facade of the Santa Croce (=Saint Cross). Originally all the church’s walls were decorated with frescoes, some of them from Giotto himself, but its use as hospital during the 16th century plague forced to whitewash all its walls. Some of these frescoes have been recovered in a recent restoration.
