10/43.- Florence, Piazza della Signoria, Hercules
and Nero sculpture
At the end of the 14th century the 'Signoria' of
the Medici began. They ruled Florence and other
cities for almost three centuries. The maximum
splendor of the Medici was in the 15th century,
with Lorenzo il Magnifico, who brought to the court
artists like: Brunelleschi (1377-1446, the
Renaissance architecture master, buried inside his
cathedral), Botticelli (1445-1510, one of the most
famous cinquecento painters) Masaccio, Beato
Angelico, Filippo Lippi, Donatello, Michaelangelo
(1475-1564, a Renaissance genius: sculptor,
painter, architect and poet) and Leonardo da Vinci
(1452-1519, the perfect Renaissance artist:
painter, engineer and inventor).
