At the end of the 14th century the 'Signoria' of the Medici began. They ruled Florence and other cities for almost three centuries. The maximum splendor of the Medici was in the 15th century, with Lorenzo il Magnifico, who brought to the court artists like: Brunelleschi (1377-1446, the Renaissance architecture master, buried inside his cathedral), Botticelli (1445-1510, one of the most famous cinquecento painters) Masaccio, Beato Angelico, Filippo Lippi, Donatello, Michaelangelo (1475-1564, a Renaissance genius: sculptor, painter, architect and poet) and Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519, the perfect Renaissance artist: painter, engineer and inventor).
