9/43.- Florence, Piazza della Signoria,
Sabinas abduction
A travel to Florence is not only a travel in
space, but also a travel in time. When you get to
this city, it is like you had been teleported to
the medieval age.
This wonderful city is located in the Arno River
Valley. We find Etruscan and Roman ruins in
Florence, but what characterizes this city is the
Renaissance period. During the 13th and 14th
century Florence extended its domination to Arezzo,
Pistoia and Siena. Famous artists of this period
are Dante (the author of the "Divina Comedia", one
of the fathers of the Italian language), Giotto
(1266-1337, the author of the Cathedrals
tower and the frescoes of Santa Croce), Petrarca
and Bocaccio.
