2/29.- Flanders: Canal, Damme

Damme is situated between Bruges and the coast. When Bruges was a large port and wealthy center of cloth trade (before the 15th century, when the Zwin Estuary silted up) ships transited via this town. Today it has become a quiet village along the canal. The flat Flemish landscape with its canal and low grey skies has been sung by Belgian poet Jacques Brel.
