25/50.- Brussels, The Marolles
The Marolles quarter is one of Brussels’ most typical
popular areas. Although it is no longer the slum it used to
be, there remain patches of underprivileged housing conditions.
This quarter is where, at one time, Toone’s famous puppet
theatre was situated, where simple people could see Brussels-dialect
versions of great plays and operas for a few pennies. It has
now moved to the tourist district, and become an attraction
for the wealthy.
