Although Czech and Slovak are very similar, they are two different languages. Most of the young people speak English, and some of the older ones speak German. It is always a wise idea to learn some words in Slovak, for instance:

• Hello = Dobry den
• Yes/no = Ano/Nie
• Please = Prosim
• I don’t understand = Nerozumiem
• How much is it? = Coto Stoji?
