4/35.- Avignon, Place du Palais
In 1226 the king of France Louis VIII occupies the city, and Avignon
loses its independence. A period of decadence begins. But at the beginning
of the 14th century the city recovers part of its lost splendor. During
this period, Avignon is the base of the hospitaliers and the templars
knights, it has a university, several convents and a cathedral.
Walking along this narrow street will take us to the Place du
Palais, where we will find the main reason to come to Avignon: the
Popes Palace and its cathedral.
