Alsace: Ungersheim Ecomuseum
In the foreground, an iron gate, reminding us that ironwork was, and to some
extent still is, one of the area's resources. One of the villages along the
Alsatian wine road still specializes in decorated iron hearthplates (while
another specializes in tiled stoves, which can also be seen in the museum).
In the background, a wash-house, where housewives, or their servants, would
come to wash their linen and exchange village gossip.
