22/22.- Nagoya, Linimo Train
Nagoya drew the attention of the world in 2005, when the
Expo 2005 Aichi was held on the outskirts of the city. The theme of the Expo was
"nature's wisdom". With more than 25 million visitors, the expo was a big success. The Expo area is 15 kilometers from Nagoya. To get there you can take
Japan's first maglev train,
the
Linimo (in the picture). Maglevs, or magnetic levitation trains, are trains that use strong electromagnetic fields to sustain and move the trains.
From Nagoya there are some nice one-day excursions you can take:
Inuyama, famous for its beautiful castle;
Ise, with
Japan's most sacred Shinto shrines;
Kiso Valley, with its preserved
post towns;
Shirakawa-go, a remote mountainous region; and Takayama, one of the best
preserved old towns in Japan.
If you want, you can now visit more cities in Japan: Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Hiroshima.
