1/36.- Welcome to Kerala Backwaters, India

Kerala is a state in the south of India. Its backwaters is a network of canals, rivers and lakes that can be explored on a rented boat. The backwaters of Kerala is one of the most beautiful regions in India.

A good starting point for a backwaters river tour is the small town of Alleppey, also known as Alappuzha. From Alleppey you can do many tours along the backwaters, or navigate all the way to Kochi (North, 5 hours), Kottayam (South, 3 hours) and Quilon (South, 8 hours).

Other good starting points for Backwater tours are Quilon and Kochi, from where you can take a local boat to Alleppey.

On the following pages I will give you information about the different possibilities to visit the backwaters of Kerala.
