Xian, the Big Goose Pagoda, roof detail
The Big Wild Goose Pagoda is inside the Da
Ci'en Temple. This Temple of Great Maternal Grace was built
to commemorate the death of the Empress in 648. Inside the temple
you will find two buildings on the sides, the Bell Tower, East,
and the Drum Tower, West, from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
On the Central Axis of the temple you find
the Hall of Mahavira, with three carved statues of Sakyamuni;
the Sermon Hall, where Buddhists listened to sermons; the Big
Wild Goose Pagoda; and the Hall of Xuanzang Sanzang, with Xuanzang's
relic.
