6/40.- Xian, Mount Lishan, Laomudian
Mount Lishan is on the north side of Mount
Qinling. The name of the mountain can be translated as "Black
Horse Mountain", because its
shape
resembles a horse. The
mountain became a retreat during the Tang Dynasty. Emperors
enjoyed the Hot Springs and the landscapes views.
Ask the ticket guy on the bus for the Lintong
Museum stop. If you are lucky and he understands you, you will
be dropped at a stop in front of the museum. The Lington Museum
hosts
a collection of 10,000 relics, from the stone age up to
the Qing dynasty.
This
is where the Xian incident took place
in 1936. Chang Kaishek was arrested by his own troops, and was
forced to sign an alliance with the revolutionaries against
the Japanese.
