Another option to move around is the bus. This is the cheapest, but slowest and least recommended option. The good thing about buses is that they will take you to unexpected places. If you want to take buses, ask your hotel which buses will take you to Shanghai's tourist sights. On buses, and in crowded places, watch out for pickpockets. Note that traffic in Shanghai is always very congested, especially during rush hours.

Walking in the streets of Shanghai is a pleasant experience, except when it comes to crossing the streets, which can be quite dangerous. Cars will not stop at a red light, even if they see a pedestrian crossing the street. It is you that have to look both ways before crossing. If you see a car, stop. He won't.
