22/43.- Shanghai, Jade Buddha Temple, interior

There are two Jade Buddha statues in the temple. One of them is seated and the other is in the Sakyamuni position, which symbolizes the attainment of enlightenment or nirvana. Both statues come from Burma, and date back to the 19th century.

The current temple is from 1928. The old one, from 1882, was destroyed during the revolution that overthrew the Qing Dynasty.
