6/30.- Hong Kong, Mid-levels Escalator

Perhaps the most interesting part of Mid-levels, at least for a foreign tourist, is the Mid-levels escalator. Opened in 1994, it's the longest outdoor escalator in the world (800 meters) and is very effective at moving commuters between the residential areas of Mid-levels and the business district of Central. It runs downhill from 6 AM to 10 AM, and uphill from 10:30 AM to midnight. It's free to use and on some days carries over 50,000 people. There are plenty of places to get on and off, and it's a fairly quick and convenient way to get between places - assuming it's running in the right direction when you want to go!
