15/26.- Hangzhou, Monk Ji Gong Memorial

Another of the major attractions of the Tiger Spring area is the Monk Ji Gong Tomb. Monk Ji, the crazy monk, is part of popular culture in China.

The monk, who lived in the 12th century, used to serve in Lingyin Temple. Although Monk Ji Gong had a kind heart, he was kicked out of the temple because of his odd behavior (he ate meat and drank wine). From then on, he roamed the streets and helped people whenever he could. Through the cultivation of the Buddha teachings, he acquired magical powers. After his death he was revered as a deity.

The celebrated Buddhist monk is also known as the Robin Hood of China.
