Alexandria is a good one-day excursion from Washington DC. In Alexandria you will find some nice restaurants, shops and tourists attractions.

Alexandria is south of the Ronald Reagan International Airport, in Virginia. You can get to Alexandria with the Washington Metro (Yellow line, King Street Station), from there take the DASH to the waterfront, where you can move around walking.
