Panama City, Panama Canal, Miraflores Locks
Seeing the huge ships pass through the locks is an unforgettable experience. If you click on the picture you will see how little room the ships have left.
Recently the people of Panama approved in a referendum the expansion of the canal, in order for bigger ships to pass through.
If you want to experience the canal from a ship, it is possible to take a canal tour. There are partial and complete tours. The tours are offered every saturday. Tourist ships leave from
Pier 19 in Balboa, go under
Puente de las Americas,
through the Miraflores and Pedro Miguel Locks,
into Gatun Lake, and through the Culebra Cut to Gamboa, where partial transit passengers disembark. Complete transit passengers go
through the three locks at Gatun too.
