27/50.- New York, Chinatown

Chinatown is the place where more than 80,000 Asian-Americans live. Some of them have lived their entire lives here, but can't say a single word in English. The first time I visited Chinatown, I only saw the typical souvenir shops --where you can buy the famous watch and clothing copies-- and the tourist restaurants, but on my following visits to this neighborhood, I saw there was much more to see. If you have some time, do get lost in Chinatown. Walking in some of the back streets, one has the sensation of being in China. Shops, people, buildings, ... it is almost a trip to Southeast Asia. By the way, do not miss the Eastern States Buddhist Temple at 64b Mott Street. Click on the photo to see a virtual picture shot in a street in Chinatown.

And close to Chinatown is another famous area ... Little Italy.
