There are several stops along the way where you can park. and follow trails down by the white and red sandstone mountains, known locally as Aztec sandstone. Vegetation is of the hardy kind, plants that can withstand desert conditions. Some of these include the pinyon-juniper, the Joshua tree, the rabbit brush and the blackbrush. That bottle of water you brought sure comes in handy now.
