Nine Miles, Bob Marley museum, Bob lives
Bob Marley was the first artist born in a third world country to succeed in the pop music. He had several international hits: 'is this love', 'no woman, no cry', 'could you be loved', 'I shot the sheriff', jammin', 'three little birds', ...
Marley was born here in Nine Miles in 1945. His father was
a white English army captain. His mother was a 17 year old Jamaican.
When he was a teenager, his family moved to Kingston, there
he met some musicians. Some years later his band was renamed
the Wailing Rude Boys, later the Wailers. In 1966 he moved to
Delaware, found a job in a car factory, and married Rita. His
international career started when he met Johnny Nash, his producer.
In the 1970's his attitude and his songs earned the admiration
of the public. All his life he fought against racism, injustice,
and oppression. In 1980, after being diagnosed a brain cancer,
Bob died. His voice was not silenced, though. Marley's records
are still beign sold world wide.
