26/50.- Roaring River, children

Only a few Jamaicans are allowed to work in western countries. Canada and US farmers come to Jamaica looking for workers to work in their farms during the summer season. But it is not easy to get one of these working permits. First, applicants need to demonstrate they have a family in Jamaica, and that they do posses some land. This way, working authorities are sure they will come back to Jamaica once the harvesting is over.

The ones who do not have land are not allowed to leave the island. They are slaves without chains. They are free to move around the island, but they are not free to leave. And, although Jamaicans are hard workers, some of them cannot find a job. A sad situation ... Anyway, as you can see in the picture, young Jamaicans do not lose their smile.
