If you are interested in wildlife, apart from doing a trek, there are couple of places you can visit.

One is the Butterfly observatory, with a collection of butterflies from the region.

The other, is the Ecocentro Danaus where you can see many animals; hummingbirds, toucans, snakes, red frogs, caimans, and snakes.
