If you keep walking along the avenue (Rua Lapa), you will get to the city's old aqueduct, Arcos da Lapa or Aqueduto da Carioca, another of the symbols of Rio.

The aqueduct was built in 1723 in order to bring the waters of the River Carioca to the city of Rio. A tram runs on the aqueduct in the direction of Santa Teresa. On the following page you will see a picture of the Aqueduct.
