From the Monumento do Cristo Redentor there is a nice landscape view of the city of Rio de Janeiro. In the area you will also find some souvenir shops and a café.

On the way to the Corcobado Mountain, you will see some of the famous Favela neighborhoods in Rio. Something that surprises many visitors, is how close the poor favelas are to the rich villas; sometimes only separated by a wall. In Rio you will find travel agencies that organize tours to the favelas. If you are interested in seeing how the less fortunate people of Rio live, you can join one of them. The visit is done with a guide, and it is considered safe.
