2/16.- Porto Seguro, Cidade Historica, Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Pena

Between downtown Porto Seguro and the beach, there are steps that lead to the Cidade Historica. In the Historical Center you will find a colonial church, a lighthouse and some old houses. It was here that the first Europeans settled in Brazil.

In this picture you can see the Matriz de Nossa Senhora da Pena, from 1730. Inside the church you can admire an altar with an image of São Francisco de Assis from the 16th century, the oldest in Brazil.
