2/18.- Ouro Preto, Igreja do Carmo

Ouro Preto, which we could translate as Black Gold, has plenty of churches with altars decorated with gold. These churches are the town's main attractions. Other tourist attractions in the town are its colorful houses, its cobble stone streets, the abandoned gold mines, and the gemology Museum.

The town's main square, Praça Tiradentes, has a rectangular shape, and it is on a hill in this town with sloped streets. At one end of the square we have the Camara Municipal, opposite the Museum of geology. Next to the Camara Municipal we have one of the nicest churches in town, The Igreja do Carmo (in the picture). In order to enter most of the churches in town, visitors have to pay a small fee. Museums also charge a fee. The amounts charged are always small.
