8/50.- Red Sea, snorkeling, yellowtail surgeonfish
This is a yellowtail surgeonfish
(zebrasoma xanthurum). Surgeonfishes get their name from the razor
sharp spines which can cause deep incisions. Their diet consists of
algae and other small animals found on rocks and corals. Yellowtail
surgeonfish are small (10-20 cm), but the combination of yellow and
blue on their skin makes of this fish one of the most beautiful in
the reefs.
