2/50.- Red Sea, marsa alam

marsa alam is a small fishing village 250 km south of Hurghada, 230 km East of edfu and 200 km North of Egypt's border with Sudan. Mining is the town's main activity, but tourism is developing fast. Currently the only way to get here is by bus from edfu or from port safaga. An airport is being constructed in the area.

The main, and almost the only, reason to come here is the practice of scuba diving. As you will see on the following pages the beauty of this coast is unparalleled. Click on the picture to see a 360 panorama.

This coast has kept virgin till now. There are only three or four places to stay in 80 km of coast. New hotels are currently being built. Let's hope this new constructions will be respectful with this unique environment.
