The city of Marrakech has almost one million inhabitants, many of them with Berbers origins. Marrakech has been the capital of Morocco through history, nowadays is considered the capital of the south of this country.

The name of Morocco comes from the name Marrakech. The French first, and the English later, changed the last letters of the city. If you hear a Moroccan saying the name of Marrakech in Arabic, you will understand the confusion. Marrakech in Arabic sounds pretty similar to "Marroc" (the French name).
