6/50.- Luxor, Luxor temple, Abu al-Haggag
mosque
In the Ramses II courtyard there
is this mosque. As in many other sacred places I have visited, when
follwoers of a new religion build a temple, they tend
to choose the same place where former religions erected their sacred
buildings. I don't know if religions choose these places because they
are sacred, or if they are sacred because they are the places religions
choose. Maybe there is some hidden telluric force which not everyone
can perceive.
This mosque was built in the Fatimid period (9091171),
and it was dedicated to the local saint who introduced islam
to Luxor, Sheikh Yusuf al-Haggag.
We will keep visiting the temple ...
