40/43.- Aswan, cafe
In this photo you can see another of the many coffee
shops in Aswan. Only men are allowed to sit in their
tables. Women visitors should take note of this.
Another recommended day trip from Aswan is the
city of Edfu, 65 miles North. In this city you can visit
the best preserved cult temple in Egypt: the
temple of Horus.
This temple dedicated to the god Horus was began in 237 BC
by Ptolemy III and was finished in 57 BC by Ptolemy X III, the
father of Cleopatra. 118 feet (36 m) high pylons with typical
scenes of the pharaoh in battle with his enemies lead into the
hypostyle hall. In this hall there are numerous reliefs, in
one of them the annual reunion between Horus and his wife hathor
is depicted. Beyond the great hypostyle hall there is the chamber
of the Nile. After this second hypostyle hall there is the sanctuary.
