There are many monuments and ruins to visit in the rest of Egypt, Alexandria is different. To better understand this city you have to read a lot about its history, because once you get here there are not many rests of its glorious past. Once you know (almost) everything you need to know about this city, it is the time to enjoy its streets and its people. You have to mix with locals and explore the hidden streets and markets. Do not be afraid to get lost. Local people are friendly and attacks to foreign tourists are extremely rare. You won't be a local more, because everyone will notice you are a stranger. But remember: the best memories you will bring back home from this city are things you will learn from the people you meet.
