12/41.- Alexandria, al-Corniche,
the beach
There are two main harbors in Alexandria: the Eastern and the
Western harbor. This one is the Eastern
harbor, in front of the Corniche,
the oldest one. The existence of both harbors dates from the
4th century, when Dinocrates built the Heptastadion.
Dinocrates (332-331 BC) was the
Greek architect who designed the city of Alexandria over the
rests of the old village of Rhakotis, following the orders of
Alexander the Great.
