Dating back to the 11th century Cliffords Tower is what remains of York Castle. It is named after a rebel-rouser called Lord Robert Clifford who, in 1322, was duly hanged in chains from the wall by Edward the second. Well, the king himself, didnt do the actual hanging, but he probably didnt object either. There are steps you can climb up to the entrance of the tower. In addition, you can climb up to the top of the tower for a Superb view of York. The ducks like it here too.
