The city of Tournai, which gave birth to many artists (among whom the painter Roger Van der Weyden) is famous, among others, for its gigantic five-towered cathedral. The church has a long and intricate architectural history spanning the centuries, and today sports an archeological excavation in the middle of its nave. The cathedral's treasury witnesses to the wealth and variety of artistic know-how displayed by Tournai's citizens throughout the centuries.
