19/24.- Wallonia: Coron (Miners' Housing)

Menu

At the time when demand for coal was high, the mines called for a large work force. Labourers were called in from Southern Europe and accommodated in long rows of small miners' houses, rent for which was often levied from their wages. Today many of these row houses are left to crumble, while others have been overhauled and turned into cheap housing or council flats.
