The Petit Trianon was built in 1768, following the orders of Madame de Pompadour. A few years later, King Louis XVI gave this palace as a very special present to his wife, Marie-Antoinette. She would decorate the palace according to her own tastes. Simplicity and nature were the inspirational motifs. Marie-Antoinette, the daughter of Maria Theresa of Austria, missed the days spent in Schönbrunn, for this reason she used to organize parties and theater plays on a reular basis in "her" palace.
