The parish church in Sapanta was built between 1882-1886 of brick and stone on the site of a XIVth century wooden church and dedicated to the Birth of Virgin Mary. The heroic resistance in the orthodox tradition makes the villagers of Sapanta true defenders of their faith in times of pressure from the Church of Rome for conversion. Neither the chains nor the imprisonment could make them change the faith of their forefathers. In this picture you can see old women kneeling in prayer during a liturgy on a religious holy day in August 2007 in the parish church of Sapanta.
