8/50.- Wooden church of Rogoz, asymmetrical roof and horse-head cantilever joints

Menu

The outside of the church is richly decorated and is crossed in the middle section by a belt in the shape of twisted rope and the entrance door has an accolade shape frame decorated with torsades and rosettes. Next to the door there is a cross decorated with the same motif. The eaves of the roof are supported by consoles with endings carved in the shape of the horse's head while the beams from under the eave feature jagged edges. The large assymetrical roof was designed to cover the "Old men's table" used for offerings to the dead on holidays. Above the narthex rises the square-shaped bell tower which harbors a bell room with an open gallery with arcades and pillars that is covered by a high pitched pyramid-shaped roof with four corner pinnacles.
