Vegetables tend to be produced on smaller plots, both in the hills and in the plains. Characteristic but well-known products of the local horticulture are zucchini, melanzane (aubergine or egg-plant), tomatoes and green and red peppers as well as various fruits, including delicious strawberries and peaches. Another popular and colourful antipasto is made up of all these vegetables marinated in olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
