22/50.- Istanbul, Topkapi Palace Harem Courtyard of the Black Eunuchs

Menu

The Fourth Court is the green area of the Palace, with once the famous Tulip garden, terraces, and kiosks. From this vantage point you can take pictures of the Bosphorus(see my first photo) or have an elegant lunch at the Topkapi Palace Konyali.

We can now return to the Second Court and buy tickets for admission into the once most secret quarters of the palace: the harem. The Topkapi Palace Harem buildings were added in the late 16th c. during the reign of Sultan Murad III. With a total of 400 rooms the harem visit would take days, so it is limited to just a few apartments through which you are guided in groups, for about half an hour. From the Courtyard of the Black Eunuchs (photographed here) you see a succession of courtyards decorated with splendid tiles and calligraphy.
