19/50.- Istanbul, Wall decorations of the Divan Hall

Menu

In the first Courtyard we find the ticket booths and buy our tickets to the Palace, thus entering through the Gate of Salutation in the second Court. In the cool and pleasant shade of the garden, the second court connects with the Harem, and through the Gate of Felicity with the Third Court.

Before making a choice let's enter the Divan Hall. The Divan Odasi or Chamber of State is where the Council in Ottoman times met four days of the week under the Grand Vizier. In this photo you can notice a window with an iron grill, which was used by the sultan to discretely observe the meetings. The room is beautifully decorated with gold and Iznik tiles.
