43/45.- Athens, Jewish Museum, Chanukah Menorahs

Menu

Well, we've seen buildings and artifacts from quite a variety of cultures and religions that have made their mark on Athens over the centuries, including ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine-Christian, and Ottoman-Moslem, why not add one more?!

The Jewish Museum of Greece is a nice little museum that chronicles the 2000+ year history of the Jews in Greece. The first Jewish communities in Greece date to the days of classical Athens, around 400 BCE. Museum exhibits include a reconstructed synagogue interior, paintings, photos, articles of clothing, and lots of Jewish ritual objects, including the Chanukah menorahs seen here, dating back to the 1400s.
