Historians point out that pagan nature cults have long survived in the island, and that even when the island was eventually christianized, there would still be a certain amount of confusion between God and the sun in some prayers. Even so, the tiny island today counts both a church and a small chapel, both of them devoted to regional saints. The borough is a parish, but has no priest of its own. Priests from the continent take turns celebrating mass on the island, and will bring their supply of candles and holy water.
