The island is part of the Chaussée de Sein (The Sein Causeway), a long stretch of underwater cliffs that constitute a danger for navigation, which is intense in this part of the Atlantic. In ancient times, the inhabitants would comb the beaches for goods washed ashore from shipwrecks. But today, the island and its linghthouses have become a navigational landmark. The lighthouse shown here has its own power station, which also provides electricity for the rest of the island.
