Let’s learn something else about the artists who made this city famous. We will start with Botticelli. He was born as Alessandro Filipepi in 1445 in Florence, the city where he died in 1510. He took part in the social and cultural life of this city. He was one of the followers of Savonarala. Savonarola, born in Ferrara in 1452, was a Dominican member. He criticized the vices and corruptions of the Medici family (among other nobles of its times). He even attacked the Pope Alexander the 6th. Thanks to his oratory he won the favor of the citizens of Florence, and the Medici members were expelled from the city. But he had a tragic end, because the Pope accused him of heresy and he died in the Bon fire of the Vanities.
