17/46.- Bassin de Thau, Pinet

Pinet looks like a peaceful but insignificant rural village where the old houses have large gates and wrought-iron balconies. Its treasure, however, is its dry white wine, the Picpoul de Pinet, which has been produced here since the 16th century and was one of Napoleon's favourite wines. Drunk chilled and kept cold in an ice bucket, the Picpoul in its slim green bottle is the ideal wine to accompany the seafood served in the many restaurants along the Bassin de Thau.
