4/25.- Chambord, tapestries

The castle was finished in 1547, in times of Francis I. With its 440 rooms is one of the biggest castles in Europe. The castle is so big that not even 365 fireplaces were enough to keep it warm in winter. For this reason, it was mainly used in fall and spring. In 1574 Francis I died, and for more than 50 years the castle was not used. A couple of centuries later, after the French Revolution, there were plans to demolish it. Fortunately, the castle was saved. Since 1930's the French State has taken care of restoring and preserving it.
