This column, guarded by two bronze lions and topped with the statue of Belgium’s first King, Leopold I, commemorates the congress which drew up the Belgian constitution in 1830. At its foot lies the grave of the Unknown Soldier. The column is the scene of a patriotic ceremony on Remembrance Day.
